John-Mark was three years old when we moved to Liberia in 1986 and he lived most of his growing up years in Liberia and the Ivory Coast. God used his experiences in Africa as well as the preaching and teaching at Cedarville University to lead him back to Liberia for ministry among the Mu slim and animistic peoples. After graduation he came to Liberia and worked with Samaritan's Purse for three years as evangelism director and head of their Christian Health Evangelism program. Sara grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. While in college she took a two-week missions trip to Liberia with Water of Life. God used this trip to touch her heart for ministry in Liberia and to give her a chance to meet the Sheppards. She returned to Liberia a year later to teach in an interior village which just happened to be within a hour and a half drive from where John-Mark was working. They began dating while she was in Liberia and continued to correspond after she left. To make a long story short they were engaged Christmas, 2008 and married June, 2009. (If you are a romantic and want to read the whole story—written by Sara’s friend Vania—click here.) On April 4th, 2012 God blessed them with a baby girl, Audrey Ellen. On June 4th, 2013 God blessed them with Noah Robert. Their third child, James Mark was born on August 20, 2015. They returned to Liberia in January of 2013 and are now ministering in Lofa county under SIM mission. For more information on SIM's work in Liberia, click here. |
